Advertiser Wedding Fair 08
Help with big-day decisions

Sunday's (April 6th) Advertiser Wedding Fair was held at Southwell Racecourse for the first time and proved to be very popular — with almost 300 people attending, including 125 brides-tobe.

In the past the wedding fair has been held at Kelham Hall, the headquarters of Newark and Sherwood District Council. The Advertiser’s marketing and promotions manager, Mrs Rachel Brown, said those events had proved to be very successful in the past and they had decided to move the event to a new venue in a different part of the Advertiser’s circulation area.

Both venues offer civil wedding ceremonies and receptions.

A total of 37 companies offered their advice and services to engaged couples and their families at the fair, with most aspects of the special day covered, including photography, venues, flowers, table decorations and beauty treatments.

One of the most popular stalls was the catering department of Southwell Racecourse, who gave out free tasters of the starters they offer for receptions. Visitors could try fresh tomato and basil soup, a chicken caesar salad or a smoked salmon and prawn dish. Couture Cakes of Spalding, Lincolnshire, also gave out free tasters of their wedding cakes.

The English Chocolate Fountain company of Mansfield had white and milk chocolate fountains for visitors to dip marshmallows, fudge and fruit into.

Vocalist Adam Thomas took centre stage in the marquee before two fashion shows, drawing big crowds.

Visitors could then book him for their wedding reception.

Many brides-to-be took the opportunity to have free eyelash extensions by Karren Dearlove of Coddington as well as to get make-up ideas from staff at Boots and Virgin Vie, Newark. Gymophobics of Newark enticed women who wanted to get trimmer for their big day to sign up for a 30-minute workout.

The Advertiser’s Number One Holidays provided hen and stag party ideas, including theatre trips and city breaks.

Many visitors enquired about having their wedding recorded by Iris Video Productions of Nottingham, or having their special day planned by Peppermint Dreams, wedding and event organisers.

Transport was also on show, outside the racecourse building, including Lincoln Luxury Cars, Avantgarde Chauffeurs and Exclusive Cars of Nottingham, who had a red London bus on display.
